One thing that I’ve learned over my time being a Health Guru is for one of your clients to really achieve true weight loss you need to put yourself in their shoes.  I did exactly that recently!  I stopped taking my probiotics, and neglected keeping a healthy home.  Heck, I even stopped working out.  I didn’t do anything.  I completely let myself go, and then went over to McDonalds’ everyday for the following 6 months.

Sure enough I gained over 50 pounds of serious fat!  My adrenal glands suffered because of the poor nutrition I was receiving.

Why on Earth did I do this?

After all that hard work… why let everything go?  To prove a point!  Not to my sister, or my aunt or another family member.  I actually needed to prove a point to my carpet cleaner, because I knew that he could lose weight if he tried.  Eric, my carpet cleaner would always remark that there was no way he could lose weight.  He suggested that because of the fact that he worked with his hands all day, and eat according to the food pyramid that his body was just unable to lose weight.

I met Eric at the Mcdonalds he always go to for lunch everyday for 6 months.  He could visibly see the weight that I was packing on.  At the 6th month point he broke down to let me know that he really needed to make a change… heck “we both needed a change”.

Since then Eric has lost 120 pounds… and I’ve lost 52.

Do you brush your teeth?  That’s the kind of question that my kids and husband hate.  It’s an important question, but what is actually more important will shock you.  The most important thing is the foundation, as I talked about in my apple cider vinegar post…  Foundation is key to your overall health.  Starting your day with a “morning cocktail” like apple cider vinegar is key to setting your body up to absorb the proper nutrients.

Brushing your teeth twice a day is the tip of the iceberg.  Over the past few years due to numerous factors the prevalence of TMJ or temporomandibular joint disorders have rapidly increased.  I’m a huge believer that the TMJ occurrences have doubled due to the fact that people are under such increased stress.  Increasing stress levels cause tooth grinding, and the tooth grinding results in worn and loose tooth.  Over time worn teeth will create dysfunction in which you teeth end up not being able to sit properly which causes your jaw muscle to be unable to relax.

Your muscles need to heal at night while you’re sleeping.  Jaw muscles that cannot rest will get inflamed, and have huge effect on your jaw.  Improper tooth alignment starts with dull jaw pain, but leads to much bigger problems such as TMJ.  Someone suffering from TMJ can experience a ton of problems including the following…

How to Treat TMJ

Treating TMJ is the hard part.  There are a million different causes of TMJ, and there are a million Dentists across the country who are TMJ “Specialists”.  Not all these TMJ Specialists are created equal.  TMJ is a very high price dental operation, and can involve jaw surgery.  As a Health Guru I’d recommend a TMJ Specialist that performs Rejuvenation Dentistry which the best way to actually cure TMJ.  It will be very hard to find a good TMJ specialist, but there are many around the NYC area.  It’s best to find a TMJ Specialist in Connecticut to eliminate your headaches, migraines, and other TMJ symptoms.  TMJ Specialists in CT are among the least expensive.  You’ll be able to find a good TMJ specialist without breaking the bank.  If you look in NYC to find a TMJ specialist than you’re looking at spending some serious money.

Regardless if you think you might have TMJ or if you just feel some dull jaw pain from time to time, it is very important that you seek out a TMJ expert.  Seeking out a TMJ expert is key to getting ahead of this quickly degenerating disease. Before your jaw muscle, TMD joint, and teeth get too deteriorated, seek out an expert.  If you have trouble finding a TMJ specialist just contact me.  I’ll make sure to point you in the right direction.

The raving hit of 2010-2016 is Yogurt.  Yogurt is possibly one of the most famous health foods.  In reality yogurt isn’t good for you at all.  Yogurt is incorrectly labeled to be a health food, and loaded with sugar.  Dairy isn’t even the best place to get those good bacteria strains your gut health.  Ideally, you’d want to get it from other sources.

Great Sources of Probiotics:

  • Sauerkraut
  • Miso Soup
  • Kombucha
  • Sour Pickles

Personally, I take a serious spore-driven probiotic.  I’m a huge believer in the fact that your stomach acid will destroy any probiotic strains you try and put in it.  It’s also important to take a prebiotic such as apple cider vinegar.  A probiotic can really help out your back pain because it replace those inflammatory bacteria with good ones.  A strong combination of apple cider vinegar and a strong probiotic will do amazing things for your body.

We are living in a crucial time in humanity.  Our life expectancy is getting shorter instead of longer.  Despite all the medical breakthroughs the kids born today will have a shorter lifespan than 10 years ago.  There are some serious issues with our culture today that is having a negative impact on our health, our kids health, and our family’s health.  Unfortunately, the climb out of this hole we dug for ourselves is deep.

Obesity Facts from the NIH

  • 2 in 3 or 66.6% of Adults are now considered to be overweight or obese.
  • Greater than 1 in 3 or 33% of Adults are now considered to be obese.
  • On average 5% or 1 in 20 Adults are considered to have a case of extreme obesity.
  • 33% or 1 in 3 Children from the ages of 6 – 19 are overweight or obese
  • 16% or 1 in 6 Children from the ages of 6 – 19 years of age are obese

In Defense

buffIn defense to these calculations put on by the NIH there are some people like my husband who are “obese”.  I’m sure you’ve read my bio, and can understand that I’d be the last person on earth to have a health issue.  Same thing goes for my husband, but his BMI is in the obese category because of how much muscle he has.

Take the gentlemen to your left.  He’s got what looks to be a 6 or a 8 pack of chiseled abs.  He’s very muscular, and by definition would be very healthy.  In the eyes of the Body Mass Index or BMI he is actually obese.  His BMI would definitely be 30+, and possibly 40+ which would put this fine guy into the extreme obesity category.

Now that doesn’t go for everyone!  I had a good laugh the other day when a client of mine tried apple cider vinegar for the first time, and said she lost a pound, and gained a pound of muscle the week after using it.  I asked her, have you actually been taking it?  She replied “no it takes like butt hole!”


We need to treat obesity like the epidemic it is, and change around everything about health.  There is a ton of weight discrimination going on in this country already, but there doesn’t have to be.

plantsHaving a healthy home is essential to living a long happy life.  A home should have plenty of oxygen producing plants inside of it especially if you have the doors and windows closed for a majority of the time.  A great example of this is when I lived in Stamford, CT.  It would get so hot during the summer that I would be forced to shut all the windows and crank the AC.  Often times the AC isn’t great for you, and on top of that the new oxygen flow is very limited.  Four to six plants oxygen producing plants will greatly improve the overall health of your home.

On top of that the energy given from those plants will give your room some much needed positive life energy.  You should be very careful of the harmful fragrances, candles, and cleaning product that you use.  They can be very bad for your health especially in a room with a lack of air circulating.  I went the extra mile when I was living in Stamford, and only used a organic, green and eco-friendly carpet cleaner.  He did an amazing job, and I could really feel the difference.

Take it from me, a mother of 4 now and serious Health Guru.  Spend the extra couple bucks, it’ll be 100% worth it!

Himalayan Pink Salt LampAnother great idea to add to your home is a Himalayan Pink Salt Lamp.  This amazing product is not only affordable, but will completely improve your home health.  The lamp has numerous benefits from improving your sleep, to increasing your energy levels.  One of the top reasons I personally chose this product is because it neutralizes your electromagnetic radiation.  Electromagnetic Radiation or EM Radiation for short is coming off of your phone, tablet, computer, TV, and everything else electronic in your house as you read this blog.

EM Radiation has not had enough time to be researched heavily, and the following opinions are based on my personal experience rather than fact.  Health Gurus agree that in 2016 “Sitting is the new Smoking”, but what they don’t realize is that in 2036 EM Ration will be the new sitting!  EM Radiation is so powerful that in 10 years bees will be extinct because they navigate properly with WiFi disrupting their ability to find home.

The biggest problem we have in this country isn’t weight discrimination like I mentioned in my last post.  Instead the biggest issue we have is the fact that the whole USA is obsessed with treating the symptoms instead of the root cause.  When someone says they have back pain they check with the most reputable sources like WebMD.

WebMD says to take anti-inflammatory drugs to deal with the back pain.  Are you kidding me?  By taking anti-inflammatory drugs you’re overworking your kidneys.  You’re not treating anything but the pain.  It’s unbelievable that these huge companies don’t want to truly help people.

The Right Treatment

The right treatment for back pain is much different. You need to figure out the cause of the back pain.  In most cases the cause back pain itself is a instability of the back.  The instability is caused by a unhealthy gut.  To treat the back, you really need to treat the gut.  Taking probiotics will be very helpful, but you need a prebiotic like apple cider vinegar.  On top of that you’ll need to start to figure out if you have any other issues ranging from glute amnesia to bulging discs.

Treating the gut will be a slower approach to minimizing the pain you experience, but you can actually change the way your back functions.  Changing the way your back functions will allow it to heal, strengthen and prevent future injuries.

cocktailMmm..  Doesn’t a morning cocktail sound great?  I bet it does.  We all would love to have Bloody Mary’s for breakfast!  The cocktail I’m talking about non-alcoholic.  I know, boring right?  Wrong, this cocktail will have your eyes wider having a strong black coffee.

On top of that you’ll love the effects:

  • Lowers Cholesterol
  • Decreases LDL
  • Increases HDL
  • Lowers Blood Pressure
  • Improves Skin
  • Fights cavities
  • Improves healthy bacteria of the gut

Sounds too good to be true, doesn’t it?  Wrong!  This is a miracle drink that you can have every morning, and every night!

The “Mother” of Drinks

The mother of all drinks is the Apple Cider Vinegar concoction.  It’s absolutely-freaking-amazing for the body!  I’m talking about a huge list of health benefits.  If I had to name all the health benefits of this amazing drink than I’d need a larger blog.  I could go on for pages about the goodness behind ACV.  You’ll need to make sure that your ACV is USDA Organic and has the “mother” at the bottom.  It looks kind of gross, but that’s what you need to have a healthy gut.

All those antibiotics over the years have damaged the good bacteria in your gut, and this is one of the best ways to get it all straightened out.  ACV is a prebiotic which cleans the gut so new good bacteria can form.  Many people waste serious money on probiotics only to have to keep taking them to feel well.  Have a prebiotic like apple cider vinegar  that cleans your gut out so you can actually have good bacteria take residency in it is key.  Good bacteria is the key to losing weight, eliminating low back pain, and feeling great.

The Cocktail

For this healthy cocktail you’ll need to mix the following.  My advice is to just slam it, because it isn’t meant to be enjoyable.

  1. 8 oz of purified water
  2. 2 teaspoons of ACV
  3. 1/4 teaspoon of Cayenne pepper
  4. 1/2 teaspoon of turmeric
  5. huge balls

You’ll need those huge balls to actually drink it.  This is going to taste like ass!

You have two choices when you’re about to jam that whatever down your throat.  Ask yourself..

Do I want to be more healthy?

Do I want to be less healthy?

That’s the question you must ask yourself. 

Foods are an amazing thing.  Foods can be used for pleasure.  Foods can be used for fuel.  The absence of foods can be used to suppress cultures, kill, and used as torture.  The plethora of food can be used to nurture civilizations, make families whole, and cause diabetes.  Food is an amazing thing.

Eating is done for many different reasons.  People eat because they are starving.  People eat for fun.  People eat while they are under stress.  People eat in victory.  People eating in 2016 divides out culture into what is socially acceptable, who will get the job, and who will not.  There are many laws against racial discrimination, but weight discrimination is still allowed.

weight discriminationBeing Black, White, Yellow or Brown doesn’t really matter.  Yes, there are certainly some advantages to being white in america, but there are certainly some disadvantages in other walks of life.  I’m not here to start an argument of white privilege or not, because if you’re so focused on what other people have that you don’t then that’s your problem.  Don’t make it your problem.

Who would you hire for a corporate job?  The fat white guy, or the buff black guy?  I’m sure the latter, because weight discrimination is a big issue in this country.  Now is weight discrimination as bad as racial discrimination?  That’s a question to answer in another blog post.

The point that I’m trying to get across here is that there is a serious weight discrimination in this country.
